Granville Island

Granville Island is a funky spot in Vancouver, BC, Canada.  Currently it is a mixed use area serving an art school, working artisans, tourists, industry and residents within an island that appears to be a collection of corrugated metal sided buildings. Definitely odd, but very trendy. Lots of restaurants, shops and the biggest public market that we have seen.  It is like Faneuil Hall or the new Boston Public Market, but WAY bigger.

The Look:  rather industrial.

Living in a house boat or a float house as called in Canada. This is the other image that I like -- juxtaposition of house boat against hi-rise condos... pick your bed.

Mail Delivery for Float Houses... you can still live "old school"

There is a cement factory on the island (been there for almost 100 years) that was the subject of an Urban Art effort . http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/08/25/granville-island-vancouver-biennale_n_5711535.html

River Scenes: I also really like the water taxis - the red one and the blue one are taxis/ferries. After all we saw, these boats are likely the best way to get to the island (and they are fun!)

Inside the Granville Island Public Market.  Love the place -- parking is horrible!  The market is inside an old machine shop likely used for Maritime construction.  You can see the gantry crane in the second shot.
